This is heavy, was the first thought that
hit me when I finally had the chance to take a breath, for the past 24 hours I
have been running because my life has depended on it.
It's not every day that your partner,
I mean former partner wants you dead.
My first jump, which happened exactly 24 hours ago when I was hunting down a jumper
by the name Mike Turner who really outdid himself this time.
He surprised me and Amber by setting off C4 which he had tied around his chest. The roof
collapsed and when I saw Amber was
about to be crushed by a falling beam I jumped right next to her and jumped her
out to safety without a single thought of hesitation
and realisation of what I have done.
Bad news was Frost, another
fellow paladin who saw what I did tried to put 50,000 volts in my back.
Still new to this "jumping" thing
I did the first thing that came to my mind, I dropped Amber and made a run for
it.
So here I am 24 hours later in the Munich
central train station, buying a long needed coffee to compensate for
my lack of sleep.
"Ahhhhh, much better"
Sighs of relief as I slumped into a
chair and sipped my coffee,
“What to do now?”
Less than 24 hours ago I was still a
paladin who hunted jumpers, now I’m being hunted like an animal.
Ohh the irony.
A smirk spread across my face as I
realise what I kind of mess I was in for.
There I was, sitting in a coffee shop in one
of the busiest train station in Germany
thinking about how to run away from the organisation. When it hit me, I can
jump!
Although I have no control over how to do it, I am now officially a
jumper.
I walked
out the coffee and started to make my way to the ticket booth when I saw Amber
and Frost walking down the stairs from the second floor.
“That’s
not good.” Frost peered down and fixed
his gaze in my direction, his expression was stone cold until he saw me, it
turned from boredom to surprise and then to the cold killer face he always had before
he drives the dagger through the jumpers we manage to catch.
“OI YOU!
Stop right there!” Frost called out at
the top of his lungs.
“yeah
right, like that’s going to happen.” I turned around and sprinted towards the
main exit into the city.
Behind me Frost and Amber chasing me and loading their
guns with electric wires.
I ran
for until my lungs could not fill themselves with enough oxygen, I turned into
a alley with the ground paved with tiles and collapsed onto the snow cover
ground.
“How
does this jumping thing work?” I though to myself “Am I going to die?”
“Snow,
“Frost said as he pointed his gun at me, “You end here.”
“No way
in hell I am going down this easily!” I retorted and fixed my gaze at the fire
escape ladders.
The next
thing I know is that I am running up the fire escape ladders.
“Oops, I think I
just jumped “
I yelled as I pull myself onto the roof where I was met by a warm
welcome of 50,000 volts to the chest.
“I got
him Frost, I got Snow” Amber cried out while she stakes the other end of the
gun into the roof like so many time before to prevent the jumpers from jumping.
“Good
work! I am coming up now! Just give me a second with the bloody fire escape.”
The
amount of pain was unbelievable as the electricity surged through my body and
into my brain, I felt like I was being fried alive.
“Why are you doing this?” I
managed to mutter out of my mouth.
“You did save my life Snow, but the fact you
saved my life will be the reason why I am doing this.”
In my
hazy vision I saw Frost making his way onto the roof and as he staggered over
towards me with a grin on his face. He bent down and edged his face close to
mine and said “Look what we have here ….”
And he stopped. Confusion and pain
crossed his face and he dropped face first into the snow beside me. A knife
stuck out from his back.
Amber
quickly untied me “you should go, far away from here, you know how paladins
think and how the coordinate, you should be safe as long as you stay alert.”
I stood
up, knowing what I’m about to do was much worse than what Amber did to Frost.
“Tank you Amber.” I said as I pulled her into a hug. “You were the best partner
I had and I could never repay you for what you have just done for me.”
“Its
okay, I know what you mean.” These were the last words of Amber as I drove my
dagger into her back.
“And we
are even.”
And from
that moment I knew, running away was the only thing I have left to do.
Of
course, jumping too.
